"Beware of the dog"

You can often hear about "dangerous dogs" and how they attack humans "without any reason". Some people say those dogs shouldn't be considered as dogs, some even say they shouldn't exist anymore. Dogs such as rottweilers, pit bulls or beaucerons.

The truth is, PEOPLE make those dogs dangerous. They teach them to attack and bite and be aggressive, you could do that with a golden retriever just the same way. It's true that those dogs have predispositions for aggressiveness but if you give them the love and care that all dogs need, they will turn out as sweet as any other breed. And anyway the most dangerous dogs are the ones that were maltreated by their owners, which is obvious : to your mind how do you get from this sweet puppy to this ferocious dog ?

They won't become naturally this way. But most governments don't take that in consideration, and in many countries it is forbidden to own certain breeds, or they have to wear a muzzle whenever they go out. How cruel is that ? They are all considered as dangerous because a few of them actually are. Moreover these laws only affect honorable people who trained their dog good, and most of the people who should apply to them don't, and they won't be penalized. Of course, they don't care, they're not the ones who are gonna get EUTHANIZED for it !

For instance this was my beauceron, Neil. I was supposed to put her a muzzle to take her out, which I never did.

Seriously does she look dangerous to you ? I don't even know if she was aware she had fangs ! I miss her.

Just remember no dog is born dangerous, it's the way people treat them that makes them become so.

Koko the talking gorilla

Today I'm writing my first article ! Yay ! I know it took me long, but I'm quite busy with my studies...

I decided to talk to you about Koko, a female gorilla that's considered as one of the most intelligent animals on earth. Indeed, her owner, Francine Patterson, has been teaching her sign language since Koko was 1 year old (she is now 41), and has been able to teach her more than 1000 signs so far, that she understands and reproduces. In this way, Francine and Koko established a real form of communication. For instance, Koko can say whenever she wants to leave her cage, or if she wants to eat something in particular, that kind of stuff.

One christmas, Koko asked her owner for a kitten. Francine tried giving her a stuffed cat, but as she wasn't satisfied and kept signing "sad", she made her choose a real kitten. Koko named it All Ball, and she took care of it as if it was her baby, she was very loving. But a few weeks later, Francine found out the cat had been hit and killed by a car. When she signed Koko that her cat was dead, Koko wouldn't stop signing "sad" or "cry", and she made sounds very similar to human's weeping. She actually associated a word with a feeling, even though scientists agreed that only humans could have emotions. Koko then got a new kitten, that she called Lipstick.

A lot of people won't agree with that, but I know that animals can have true feelings, if you have a dog you know what I mean, you can read obvious emotions in its eyes, and Koko's story proves that theory as well. Just because they can't express it with words doesn't mean they don't feel anything.
